Singer-songwriter, Tom Carlson, draws from traditions of American folk, old-time fiddle and country music with a heavy dose of cowboy songs in his blood. Based in California, Tom has played fiddle with numerous groups throughout the state, but in recent years has cultivated interest in his songwriting and solo performances. The Big Ribbon Stories recording of Tom’s Reposado Rain was made in his hometown of Tehachapi California.

Multi-instrumentalist Marc Sillifant played bass on the session.

Dave Moordigian joined the session to play acoustic guitar.

Ryan Sillifant played drums and organized the session.

Dave Moore provided steel guitar.

Lastly, Tom Carlson played acoustic guitar and sang his song for the Big Ribbon session.

To quote Tom on his perception of ribbon microphones; “...particularly on vocals, I am impressed by how warm and natural the ribbon mics record, the R44, R84 and others– really do capture the natural sound of the vocal without the sibilance and harshness that I typically hear from condenser microphones.”
